About Phil Owen
Hi there and Welcome,
I’m Phil Owen, owner and founder of TheOneManMission.com. To put simply, I am a man … on a Mission.
Oh it’s a dangerous one; full of panic, chaos, confusion, uncertainty and guaranteed to be constantly challenging. My mission (and i’ve chosen to accept it) is to embark on online entrepreneurship … starting from nothing.
I have no professional business qualifications such as a marketing degree. I didn’t go to programming school nor do I work alongside some sort of world-class business mentor. I am just a normal guy with a dream. An idea.

Favourite Quote:
“We make the rules, pal. The news, war, peace, famine, upheaval, the price of a paper clip. We pick that rabbit out of a hat while everybody sits around wondering how the hell we did it. Now you’re not naïve enough to think that we’re living in a democracy, are you, Buddy? It’s the free market, and you’re part of it.”

Phil’s Story
Academic background was in Psychology, which I studied at Staffordshire University. From there, I moved to Manchester where I enrolled on a psychotherapy course. I had the hope to – one day – own my own therapy practice. I got myself a job at a utilities company, selling gas and electricity services to businesses, my first ‘proper’ job, but hey, it paid the bills while I completed the course.
As time went on, I soon discovered that the aspirations I held for the psychology centre were not as grand as before, with the expectations of making a good amount of money being somewhat a rather unrealistic and disappointing dream.
My job didn’t hold the ‘career’ choice for me either. Sure, it brought in enough money to get by – but was very mundane. So, I dropped out from my therapy course (not regretful, as I met my future wife there), but concentrated my efforts on seeking the right ‘vehicle’ for achieving what I wanted out of life. I looked at hardcore sales jobs; double glazing, advertising, field sales etc, as they offered no basic salary, but BIG commission.
What I then found was I was going from job to job, always being attracted to the promise of high earnings, but never actually seeing them due to false promises, or lack of a system aimed at achieving them.
Not long after, I got a sales executive role at Virgin (or more specifically, Virginmedia). It was here, that I would get set alight by the power that I could own my own business and succeed more than I could have ever done in any job. I had the opportunity to meet Sir Richard Branson when he visited the office once, and he is somewhat of a genius through my eyes… there is no better model entrepreneur.
As part of my continuing journey, I set out to start this blog to chronicle my discoveries, my tips and advice as a budding entrepreneur from start to finish (if a ‘finish’ even exists). I hope this blog will help others who are looking to achieve the same thing as me and if just one person learns something and uses it to generate success, then the whole point of this site has been worth it.
